Until the end of November, traffic police officers will be focusing on informing drivers about the need for seasonal tire changes. And from December 1st to 5th, as part of the nationwide preventative campaign «Winter — a Driver’s Test!», they will be monitoring the timely preparation of vehicles for use in low temperatures.
From the first day of winter, vehicles must be equipped with winter tires on all wheels, with the same tread pattern on each axle. Violating this requirement, as well as using worn tires, will result in a fine of up to 1 base unit, with a repeat violation within a year resulting in a fine of 2 to 5 base units.
Not only must tires be replaced, but the vehicle must be fully prepared for the cold season. Check the cooling system, brakes, steering, and exterior lights, and ensure the battery is working properly. For good visibility, replace your windshield wipers and fill the windshield washer reservoir with antifreeze.
It’s crucial to adopt a calmer, more cautious driving style for winter. Drive at a safe speed, taking into account road conditions and weather, leave plenty of distance, and ensure everyone in the car wears a seat belt.
Pedestrians should also be especially careful. When crossing the road, look both ways, wait until all vehicles have stopped before crossing, and use reflective strips in the dark to identify yourself.
Remember the unpredictability of winter roads and strictly adhere to traffic regulations.
