Amendments to the Law on Veterans’ Issues will come into force in early May, improving the financial situation of veterans, the press service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection told BELTA.
Thus, veterans of the Great Patriotic War, awarded for service in the rear, will now receive a fivefold increase in their pension supplement — instead of the previous 50%, they will receive 250% of the minimum pension, which is almost Br280. In addition, this category receives a new status, completely equating them to participants in military operations with all the benefits and social guarantees due.
Home front workers who have state awards can also count on a twofold increase in payments — their pension supplement will grow from 50% to 100% of the minimum pension, i.e. to almost Br112.
Special conditions are provided for veterans of military operations. Military personnel who became disabled during peacetime are entitled to early retirement — five years before the established term. A separate support measure has been introduced for citizens who worked in Afghanistan between 1979 and 1989 — they will receive an additional monthly payment equal to 100% of the minimum pension.
The Ministry of Labor noted that these legislative changes are aimed at strengthening the social security of people whose services to the country are especially significant.
