MINSK, 19 July (BelTA) – Belarus urges the countries of the world to establish a closer cooperation to develop science and technologies, in particular, computer science. This statement was made by Belarus’ representative Sergei Sergeyev at a session of the UN Economic and Social Council, BelTA has learnt from the UN News Service. He voiced concerns over the uneven high-tech development of different states. Advanced countries, Sergei Sergeyev believes, should share their experience and take the lead in exchange of scientific knowledge and expertise. Belarus is working hard to build up its sci-tech potential. The country is running a series of high-tech projects, including the ones in information and communication technologies. Belarus is ranked 55th in terms of sci-tech development in the list of 161 states, and 27th in terms of the affordability of high technologies. Sergei Sergeyev noted that Belarus entirely supports the activities of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development and asked the UN to provide assistance to the CIS states to develop high technologies.
