MINSK, 20 July (BelTA) – Revenues of the Belarusian space industry should reach $1 billion in the future, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko as he visited the electronic engineering company Peleng on 20 July. “The country should have a different image. The industry should advance towards billions [in revenues]. We will help if necessary. It means different levels, a different mentality of the nation,” said Alexander Lukashenko. He gave instructions to determine cutting-edge Belarusian industries that can make high-tech and highly competitive products. “Seeding and fanning machines are good but space technologies are the key thing,” stressed the head of state. “It is necessary to set clear goals for everyone. Get to work. If you can’t, leave,” said the President. The head of state got familiar with the latest designs of the company. He examined the design division, the optical and mechanical units assembly division, the surface mounting division, the X-ray lab, the spacecraft assembly workshop of the research and design division Kosmos. Right after the USSR collapsed, the company was surviving only thanks to army contracts. Nowadays Peleng specializes in designing civilian-use instruments and space technologies. In particular, Peleng has designed equipment for the Belarusian satellite that will be launched in Q1 2011. The company has taken part in launching a total of 35 satellites. Peleng Director General Vladimir Pokryshkin said that the company has orders for the products it makes as well as specific proposals from foreign customers. The company also offers optical electronics. In particular, Peleng’s comparison microscopes, which are used by criminal law experts, are hugely popular. Peleng has also started manufacturing a wide choice of weather monitoring equipment for weather stations. At present a Peleng weather station is being tested at an airfield in Russia. In addition, the company offers border security solutions and corporate security systems. The company has invested a lot in modernizing and expanding the manufacturing facilities. The step has allowed Peleng to start manufacturing new competitive products. Peleng specializes in designing and manufacturing targeting systems, spaceborne topographic survey instruments and photogrammetric equipment, instruments for trajectory measurements as well as various civilian-use instruments. The company operates in the black and is financially stable. Peleng honors its contractual obligations and offers competitive products. Peleng has signed Br169 billion worth of contracts (95% of the 2010 year target) for 2011. The company is looking forward to new achievements. The President examined the construction of a wing meant to assemble and test space systems. By 7 November 2010 the construction will complete. Leaving the facility, Alexander Lukashenko pointed out the unsightly manufacturing premises of the company BelOMO, in particular, the metal cutting workshop. After seeing the workshop the head of state instructed the city authorities to contact the company administration to consider the possibility of relocating the workshop to another place, saying the space should be used in a better way. The establishment of a more up-to-date enterprise is the idea. БЕЛТА
